Barbara Kay Benson
1946 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Barbara Kay Benson on December 17 in Claremont, California. She was 79. On October 3, 2021, Barb suffered a cluster of strokes. After her health crisis, she moved to Claremont to be closer to her sister.
She started her life in a sweet, quaint town called Plymouth, Michigan. Later, in 1956, she, along with her mom and sister, came to California, specifically West Los Angeles. She attended Venice High School, graduating with the Trevisians class in June of 1965.
She was an accomplished artist and worked as an illustrator for different companies until landing at Hughes Aircraft, Culver City. She later was promoted to Event Coordinator at Hughes Aircraft & Raytheon. She retired from Raytheon due to health issues.
Barb was truly a pillar of strength, courage, kindness, and love. She always entered a room with energy, inclusiveness, and beauty. Her creativity was boundless and playful.
Barb's favorite activities were talking on the phone, meeting friends for a meal, taking a walk, watching old movies, creative writing, drawing, and creating adventures. She, along with her sister, Debbie, worked on many shows together, such as The Grammys, The Emmys, The CMA Awards, and many more. Barb could make an adventure anytime. She had sass and deeply loved conversations.
Her absence leaves a void that words cannot fill.
Her Facebook page will be closing soon. Please know that she loved communicating with you and loved sharing what fed her heart: nature, animals, art, family, friends, and human-interest stories.
Quoting Barb: “If you pay attention to the milestones in your life, learn as much as you can, stick to the truth even if it is difficult and stay healthy enough to grow old, then you will see most of your personal life's questions answered. It is a wonderful and fulfilling emotion and sense of cohesion."
She leaves behind sister, S70 Debbie Benson Uhlack, brothers Greg Bayliss, Michael Doll, an adopted daughter Kim De La Peza, nieces Helen Kalognomos, Kim Uhlack Sneddon, nephew's Alex Kalognomos, Jeff Uhlack and many family and friends.
????? May she rest in peace at last in the arms of our Lord.
