It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Danny Nakagiri passed away on Saturday March 21, 2026 in Westchester, Los Angeles, California. He was 77.
He was predeceased by his wife Nancy Ino, on February 25, 2015 and his parents Hisaye (1920-2006) and father Mitsugi George Nakagiri (1915-1992).
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Daniel Akira Nagagiri was born on August 14, 1948 in Los Angeles to Mitsugi and Hisaye Shimizu Nakagiri.
His father Mitsugi was also a 1935 Venice High School graduate!
In November of 1959 Danny was in Cub Scout Pack #56, with meetings being held at Braddock Elementary School.
On June 21, 1963 he graduated from Marina del Rey Junior High School.
As a teenager, Danny worked at the Shell Gas Station on the corner of Centinela Avenue and Braddock Drive.
In 1964, Danny was on the Bee Football Team under Coaches Turney and Rose. In 1965, he was on Bee Track and Bee Football Teams. In 1966, he played for the Bee Football Team.
Danny graduated with the Summer 1966 with the Estivalians class.
He served in the US ARMY, Vietnam.
Danny married Venice Gondo classmate, Nancy Fumiko Ino (S'67), on November 27, 1976 in Los Angeles.
???? Danny was a member of the Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. He was also a Charter Member of The Japanese American National Museum.
Danny is survived by his daughters Cindy (Erik) Matsubayashi and Cheryl Nakagiri; granddaughters, Leah and Kelly Matsubayashi, also survived by nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
