About	It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of HBPD Detective, Don Howell. Don’s career started with the Monrovia Police Department in 1973 before being hired by the HBPD in 1979. Most recently assigned as a Detective in Investigations, the majority of Don’s very successful 48 year career in law enforcement focused on the most complex and impactful investigations, including child abuse, sex crimes, domestic violence and cold case homicides. As a founder and twenty-year advisory board member for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Don has been a tireless advocate for child safety and instrumental in the arrests of hundreds of sex offenders. In addition, Don was also an accomplished writer, having four books on the topic of criminal investigations published. Don is survived by his three children, five grandchildren and fiancée. Don will be greatly missed not only within our HBPD family but also in the community. His many successes and contributions will not be forgotten.
