Walter sent in his questionnaire unsure whether he would be attending any reunion event. He wrote that he was married to Leila, for the part 15 years, meeting her while working at Woodys market. They have 3 children, 2 thirteen year olds and one 14. He worked as a 400 ton Press Operator and enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming and model building. He kept in touch with 5 former classmates and felt that Roger Cox and Mr. Doyle best prepared him for life out of high school. His favorite memories of school were JVS, art, Mr. Doyles classes, track and soccer. He felt that he had matured since graduation and had become more of a neat freak. His most rewarding aspect of his life has been his marriage to Lelia and his 3 children. The most interesting was watching his children being brought into the world. The most important part of his life "most of all", he wrote, was spending time with his family. God bless you, Walter. You will definitely be in our thoughts when we gather together again......... I had the pleasure and honor of being Mrs. Walter Powell for the past 15 years. Walter was a wonderful husband to me; loving, kind, caring, attentive, etc...truly the best husband a woman could ask for. He was also one of the finest fathers I have ever known. Our 3 beautiful children, Steven, Samantha, and Shirley were his greatest pride and joy and he doted on them always. He lived life to the fullest and tried to make everyday count as though it were his last. The Tim McGraw song "Live Like You Were Dying" could've been written about my wonderful Walter. I believe that every life he touched, he brought something to, and he will be missed forever by all of his friends and family, but his legacy lives on, eternally embodied in the faces of his beautiful children. Whenever I look at them, I see everything good and perfect that he was, reflected in their blue eyes; so very much like his gorgeous blue eyes. He was and always will be, my "Endless Love" which was our song. Truly, the love of a lifetime. And finally, he was always so proud to tell anyone he met that he was a Valley View graduate, Class of 86. Go Spartans, go blue...forever!Thank you,Leila J. Powell(Mrs. Walter C. Powell)________________________ Dear Mrs. Fogle,Thank you for your prompt reply and for your kind, thoughtful words. The Lord has been good to us and I know that He must have a plan for my children and I. Right now, I'm not sure what it is or how I will make it without Walter, but I trust the Lord to guide us all. Yes, the monetary gift from the classmates was a tremendous help to us and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the whole class. I wish I could thank each one individually. May God bless and keep each and everyone of them, and certainly you as well, ma'am.Thank you again,Leila J. Powell |
