My fondest memory of your dad was even further back..in the mid 1950's he came to Forest Road School and seeing some sentences on the board we made up
songs using the sentences......what a wonderful creative man he was....

Robert L. Leist

A friend of mine (Art Krasilovsky, '73 I think) is an Alumnus of Valley Stream South and I saw this page through him. Going way back, my dad, Robert Leist was your Band Director, I believe from when the school opened until 1964, when he became band director at Northport High School. I actually still remember going with my dad to marching band practices at South. He would put on a pair of high top football cleats for practice, saying it helped him run around the field better. I was in charge of putting yard markers on the field. Dad passed in March of 2011 at the age of 89, peaceful and happy in Sarasota Fl. This picture is of him guest conducting the Northport Community Band. He was 77 when this was taken. My best to all at Valley Stream South and their Alumni.

Mrs. Wieder's retirement.

Mrs. Barbara Wieder, longtime string teacher in District #30 has announced her retirement for this June, 2009. We would like to make a scrapbook of notes/memories/thanks, etc. from as many of her former students as possible.
