Graduation Year Class of 1968
Date of Passing Sep 21, 2017
About Scotty passed away into heaven on September 21, 2017 from a broken heart and a broken body. Born on August 8, 1950 to Margaret Ann McKinley and W. C. McKinley, he is survived by his brother, Robert D. McKinley, his niece Laura K. Kirkbride, his nephew Lloyd McKinley, a grand niece, a grand nephew, two aunts, two uncles, and numerous cousins.
He attended elementary school in Benton, Louisiana and Albuquerque, New Mexico, Taft Jr. High, and graduated from Valley High School in 1968. As a boy in Albuquerque’s north valley he was a Cub Scout, a Boy Scout, a Soap Box racer, a champion slot car racer, hand crafted his own amazing model car creations, and received Christ into his life.
He participated in drag races, and was a life-long avid fan of Indy Car and NASCAR racing, and attended the Indianapolis 500 race at least twice. He was a master “shade tree” vehicle mechanic and could repair anything related to houses and apartments.
He lived in New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Arizona and California. As a young man in Albuquerque he worked for NAPA Auto Parts and memorized virtually their entire parts catalogue; for an auto body shop; and drove a taxi cab in which he once gave a ride to B.B. King, and in which he once delivered a baby.
While living in Northern California he met and married Charlene Soseman on May 16, 1980 in San Francisco’s City Hall. Always happily married and totally devoted to one another, they moved to San Diego where Scotty started his own successful handy man business, and where he and Charlene made a career of managing and maintaining apartment buildings.
They were about to retire when on April 17, 1997, while walking their bicycles across a street, Charlene was crushed by a car driven by a Parkinson’s patient without a driver’s license and who accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake. When she awoke from a long coma, she was a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down save the use of one index finger.
Scotty attended to her personal and medical needs every day until she passed away on January 10, 1999. He never recovered from the accident, her suffering, and her passing, and soon developed his own serious medical conditions including multiple sclerosis, meniere’s disease, diabetes and various related complications.
My brother made no major mistakes in life. He was highly intelligent, always generous, courteous and kind, unless attacked, and then he never backed down from a fight, either physical or legal. He was devoted to his parents, and had enormous personal courage, stamina and fortitude. His was a life well lived. He was a loving brother and he will always be sorely missed.
