About	Felipe Perea, principal at School on Wheels, one of Albuquerque Public Schools’ alternative high schools for more than two decades, died on March 14, 2010, in a car accident near Gallup, N.M. He will be missed by the staff and students at School on Wheels as well as by many others in the APS community who appreciated his quiet leadership and his dedication to educating Albuquerque’s youth. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, of 35 years; son, Philippe Perea and wife Yvette; son, Ben Perea; daughter, Jennifer Olguin and husband, Ivan; as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I was in shock when I heard of the passing of Mr. Perea. He was such a good man. I was in his first class (English) in 7th grade and when I went to Valley, he went too. We kept in touch for years and I have to say that he was such an inspiration. Years later we were reminiscing and I asked him how old he was. He told me and I said, "No way!! You're only (so many) years older than me?!!" He said, "I was only 27 when you met me in my English class!" When you're in 7th grade, I guess anyone over 25 is old. We just laughed. I miss talking to my friend.
