What is Gary Garrison known for?

Valley Center High School, California is proud to acknowledge its notable alumnus, Gary Lynn Garrison, an American former professional football player. Born on January 21, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, Garrison developed a notable career in both the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL) as a wide receiver.

Garrison's journey in the world of football began with his college years at San Diego State University from 1964 to 1965. Here, he set a shining record with his 26 touchdown receptions, which remains a career school record to this day.

The 1965 AFL Draft saw Garrison being picked as the 6th player in the 'Red Shirt Round one' by the San Diego Chargers. Thus, he kick started his professional football career, playing for the San Diego Chargers for 11 seasons (1966–1976). He also played for the Houston Oilers in 1977. In his illustrious career, Garrison was a four-time Pro Bowler, including a year as an AFL All-Star with the Chargers in 1968.

Garrison's on-field statistics were equally impressive. He made a total of 405 receptions, covered 7538 receiving yards, and scored 58 touchdowns. His contributions to the San Diego Chargers were acknowledged when he was inducted into the Los Angeles Chargers Hall of Fame. He was also selected to the San Diego Chargers 50th Anniversary Team.

Besides his sports career, Garrison also co-founded the coin-operated video game manufacturer, Cinematronics, in 1975. He achieved this milestone with his teammate, Dennis Partee.
