About Salvatore P. Lutri, 80, of White Plains since 1953, died May 28, 1999 at West Jersey Hospital, Marlton, NJ. He was born February 21, 1919 in Bayonne, NJ to Mariano and Serafina (nee Iacono) Lutri. He graduated from Townsend Harris High School in NYC, Class of 1934. Mr. Lutri received a BA Degree in City College of New York June of 1938 with Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He majored in French, Latin and education. He received an M.A. in French from Columbia. He completed all residence requirements for a Ph.D. in romance philology from 1940-1951. Obtained 60 credits beyond a masters degree in Columbia and Hofstra Universities. Taught French and Spanish and served as district coordinator of the foreign language department in Valhalla High School from September 1960 to June 1977 when he retired. He taught French, Spanish and Latin in Dover, DE from November 1940 - January 1942 and also taught French, Spanish and Latin from September 1948 -June 1960 in Yonkers, Liberty, NY and Tuckahoe High School. Mr Lutri was Co-President from 1991-1994 of the Southeastern Zone of the New York State Retired Teachers Assoc. and Co. President of White Plains Retired Teachers Club from 1984-1988. Mr. Lutri was a Life member of White Plains Historical Society and Board member of the Friends of the White Plains Public Library. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of White Plains. He is a parishioner, trustee, and Co Chairman of the Cardinalës Appeal Committee, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member and assisted with clerical work in the church rectory of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, White Plains. He is a Veteran of the US Coast Guard from 1942-1945 in World War II and was discharged as a Specialist X Intelligence. Mr. Lutri married Filomena P. Lutri on July 18, 1943 at Our Lady of Solace Church, Bronx. She died in White Plains March 23, 1964 and then married Mary V. Lutri on July 3, 1965 at Saint John the Evangelist Church, White Plains She died in White Plains, on October 6, 1997. He is survived by three daughters: Marian L. Hurley of Suffern Anne L. Kirtley of Wappingers Falls; and Helen L. Cox of Juliustown, NJ; two brothers Placido Lutri of Hicksville; and Joseph Lutri of Wappingers Falls; one sister, Palma Andreotti of Syosset; and one grandchild Alicia Kirtley
