What is Deja Foxx known for?
Born on April 18, 2000, Deja Foxx is a proud Filipino-American who grew up in Tucson, Arizona, attending a magnet school in her hometown. Overcoming hardships such as homelessness during her youth, Foxx managed to secure a full scholarship to Columbia University, where she excelled to make the Dean's List. Her inspiring journey started in Tucson at University High School, wowing academics and activists alike with her tenacity.
At an early age, Foxx began her advocacy for reproductive rights. When she was only 16, she gained significant attention after attending a town hall where she publicly confronted former Senator Jeff Flake about his views on funding Planned Parenthood's Title X program. Shortly after, Foxx established several organizations and platforms focusing on feminism and reproductive rights, advocating for improved reproductive and sex education in her school district.
At the age of 17, she founded a not-for-profit initiative known as The El Rio Reproductive Health Access Project. This program provides training and payment for individuals to manage safe-sex clinics, particularly focusing on aiding non-traditional leaders like homeless teens, POC, and teen moms. In addition to this, she founded GenZ Girl Gang while at university, an online network designed to support young women.
Foxx's activism and leadership landed her a role as the youngest staffer and first Influencer and Surrogate Strategist on U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign at just 19. Following the end of Harris's campaign, Foxx subsequently worked on "Ignite the Vote," a campaign to encourage young people to participate in the 2020 US presidential election.
Recognizing her relentless advocacy, Foxx was named among Teen Vogue's 21 under 21 in 2018 and further honored in Dazed 100 in 2019. For her impactful work, she received Planned Parenthood’s Catalyst for Change Award, further exemplifying her influence and commitment in the area of reproductive rights.
Today, Foxx continues her work as a renowned human rights activist and political strategist and is an inspiration for many around the world. You can read more about her work and initiatives on her website.
