About Linda Carey, 51

Wildcat class of 1973

Linda Kay Brohamer Carey, 51, died Jan. 9, 2007, at her home in Bakersfield after a hard-fought 21/2- year battle with lung cancer.

Linda was born on July 20, 1955, in Pomona to Billie Brohamer and Enid Altfeld Brohamer. She grew up in Twentynine Palms where she attended Oasis Elementary School, Twentynine Palms Junior High School, and Twentynine Palms High School, graduating in 1973. While at TPHS, Linda was a cheerleader.

Linda’s greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. Bowling and bunko were some of the many fun things that she and her best friend, Kate, liked to do. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband in their fifth wheel. Linda will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her ability to make others laugh, and her determination in fighting her cancer. She was employed for 14 years at Kendrick Elementary School in Bakersfield as an attendance clerk. She dearly loved her position and the people that she worked with. She also ran her own cake decorating business.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Tim Carey and daughter, Lacey Carey of Bakersfield; son, Andy, wife Jennifer and grandson Tyler Cooper of Yucca Valley; son Bryce, grandsons Bryce IV and Jordan Cooper of Bakersfield, and granddaughter, Amanda Cooper of Yucca Valley; son, Timmy and wife Tamatha, grandson Jakob and granddaughter Natalie Carey of Bakersfield; son Randy Carey of Bakersfield; best friend, Kate Panos and husband Mike of Bakersfield; two sisters, Mary McGrorty of Twentynine Palms and Bonnie Brohamer of Olympia, Wash.; four brothers, Jack of Garden Valley, Idaho; Lee of Yucca Valley; Gordon and William Brohamer of Twentynine Palms; nieces, Christi and Anna Carnes of Salina, Kan.; Kelly McGrorty and Emma Romano of Twentynine Palms; Suzie McGrorty of Biddeford, Maine; Cassie Brohamer of Yucca Valley and Andrea Brohamer of Twentynine Palms; Holly and Cara Kerns and Mary Panos of Bakersfield; Michelle Panos of Texas and Becky Panos of San Diego; nephews, PJ McGrorty of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ian Carnes of Salina, Kan.; Travis and Evan Brohamer of San Diego and Darren Kerns of Bakersfield.

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Bill, in 1997 and mother, Enid, in October 2006.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 13 at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel in Bakersfield.

She was a great wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, co-worker, friend and best friend. Linda had a genuine passion for life that Kate summed up perfectly when she said, “We just had fun!”
