| About Me | After retirement from MnSCU, Ken was an adjunct professor of Information Technology courses at Minneapolis Community and Technical College until 2013. He now focuses his efforts on managing a retail center in Owatonna, MN; and is trying to learn to relax. Ken holds a Ph.D. in curriculum development from Wayne State University, in Detroit. His M.S. ‘Teaching of Physics’ came from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His B.S. in Mathematics and Physics was from Shippensburg University. He has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level in a variety of education, science, and computing areas - focused primarily on innovative uses of computers and information. Prior to teaching at the college level, Ken taught and coached at the high school level. Ken has a dozen years experience successfully administering computer and information technology departments at the higher education level – with the majority of that time as a MnSCU Chief Information Officer. Other pertinent experience includes nearly two decades of project and program management experience leading K-16 computing support organizations at the state level (MECC in MN and TCET in TX.) His personal accomplishments include leading the efforts to obtain several million dollars of grants and contracts; and authoring two books, three chapters in books, eight refereed articles, and several hundred presentations and publications at local, state, national, and international conferences. One notable event for Ken occurred when in 1996 the Charles Babbage Institute asked him to prepare and give one of the five lectures on the first 50 years of computing in Minnesota. As to instructing students, Ken’s principle focus is on helping others gain both problem solving and communication skills – necessary to be productive and successful in our changing technology-based world. When not working, Ken is in the field with his pointing retrievers hunting upland birds – except for the May – August time frame, when he might be holding a fishing rod with his grand children. In June, 2014 Huntingdon County (PA) added Ken's 1961 undefea...(read more) |
