About Me	@Odomanian I love to write both commercially and creatively, explore the world, connect with interesting people, and listen to music. I am a seasoned professional who enjoys variety, learns quickly, and values challenge and collegial team environments. I have over 20 years experience in nonprofit administration designing and managing workforce / economic development and social service programs; raising funds through writing grant proposals, direct mail and individual solicitations; and publicizing accomplishments by writing reports, newsletters and collaborative work with community partners. I enjoy good food from many cultures, spirited conversation with intellectual and creative types, and music that moves the soul. I consider myself to be easy going and free-spirited, and do my best to dance to my own beat. Since I follow a "live and let live" philosophy of life, I don't worry too much about how others see me. I think I am good at letting people be themselves with me, as I seek truth in all things. Writing is my favorite thing to do when I’m alone – and I spend a lot of time, these days, alone. I’ve not yet pursued writing exclusively as a career. My fear – I will become bored with it and left without a great passion in my life. I’m the one who sees book titles in my sleep and have dozens of books I’d like to someday write…when survival stops getting in the way! The downside of being a "quick study" is that I bore easily. My remedy - constantly seeking new experiences that will help me learn more about people, nature, and this fascinating world in which we find ourselves. I raised my only child, Din Philip, as a single parent – with a lot of help from a strong family and a few good friends. He is currently serving in the U.S. Army, and is stationed in Germany. I am extremely proud of the man he has become, and is becoming. It makes me think I must have done something right. I come from a family of AME ministers, including my grandfather, father, uncle and brother – which I suppose says something about why I describe myself as “spiritual, but not religious.” My father, who passed in 1979, was a very influential force in my life. I was the quintessential “daddy’s girl,” and believe my quit wit, sometimes sharp tongue, droll sense of humor, and passion for social causes are a direct result of his genes and nurturing. My mother, who passed in 2008, was a music teacher and relished her role as “first lady.” She was quiet, loving, gentle, reliable, creative, and extremely social. She held tenaciously to her belief that life requires the "faith of a mustard seed," and encouraged her four children to reach for their dreams. I spent most of my life doing my best to become her opposite – and now, approaching the age she and her mother considered “grown,” I see how much we are alike, and I think, that’s not so bad.
