| About Me | We're a blended family since both Bill and I lost our first spouses in 2000 and 2001. Between us we have a married son in Boise, Idaho; a married son and two grandchildren in the Irish Hills of Michigan; a married daughter and two grandchildren in Chicago, Illinois; and a married daughter and two grandsons in Providence, Rhode Island. Eight sons and daughters, six grandchildren, eight grand-horses, four grand-goats, four grand-dogs, four grand-cats, and many places to visit! Life is good! Teaching in some form has been part of my life since I graduated from college and taught in South Redford. I taught math at Marshall Jr High and night school math at Thurston. It seemed odd at first to be teaching with some of my former teachers, but they were great co-workers and continued to teach me a great deal about teaching. Jim McAlpine was particularly helpful and a dear friend. After our two girls were born, I took a break from formal teaching until Barb Riehl enticed me back to teaching at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She was an inspiration and just as caring and helpful as she was when she was teaching and subbing at Thurston. After UM-D, I substituted in the Farmington School District and also taught math in the workplace for a company in Farmington. That position led me to the Southfield Career Center where I began as a math tutor and retired as the Program Coordinator for our Resource Center, a position I loved! To help people recognize their talents and skills, to teach them how to get a job, and to be there for them in the difficult times was extremely satisfying. Retirement is wonderful, too. The flexibility allows us the opportunity to be of service in a variety of ways. The people we meet in our volunteer work have taught us much, too.
