Edward Papierniak
Class of 1940
Air Force, 2 Years

Edward was a nose gunner on a B-24 during World war 2. He flew missions out of Italy. On Feb 23, 1944 his plane was attacked by German FW190's and ME109's. They were shot down and only two members of a 10 man crew bailed out, the rest perished. My wife and I visited the town of Grunau, Austria where their plane came to rest on a mountain just east of town. I was able to retrieve a piece of the wreckage. Edward is buried in Old St. Hedwig's cemetery.
