Glenn Farber Jr., 65,

Worcester - Glenn Minford Farber Jr., 65, died Aug. 6, 2016, of pneumonia at Worcester Health Center.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1950, in Pittsburgh, son of Annetta M. (Potts) and Glenn M. Farber. He lost his beloved mother in 1963, when he was only 13, and spent his teenage years and much of his adulthood immersed in his academic, intellectual, musical and artistic pursuits.

He leaves his daughter, Elizabeth J. (Farber) Irwin and her husband Thomas, and three grandsons, Maverick, Shane and Eli Irwin, all of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Linda A. Farber of Thomasville, N.C.; a stepmother, Doris (Stevens) Farber of Jefferson Hills, PA; an extended stepfamily; his former wife, Mary Hopkins, of Pittsburgh; and friends Rob Zaza and Paul Jennette of Worcester.

Mr. Farber received a bachelor of arts degree in classics from Clark University in 1971, where he earned membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He sang in the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and briefly worked as an auditor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. After returning to Worcester, he worked 26 years as a copy editor at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, retiring in 2011. After retirement he wrote a bipartisan political blog entitled "Just the Facts" until he fell ill in 2014.

Mr. Farber was a self-proclaimed voracious reader who eschewed television. He rescued and adopted many stray cats, including his beloved "Momma." His co-workers at the T&G described him as an "intelligent and thoughtful" editor and a "gentle soul."

There are no calling hours nor public service. He will be buried at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Worcester Animal Rescue League.
