On April 1, 1972, First Lieutenant David C. Bruggeman was killed by enemy fire in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. He was a US Marine stationed at an outpost which received heavy fire for 48 hours. After giving his flak jacket and helmet to a fellow Marine, he was mortally wounded. He savied the lives of several Marines and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his extraordinary courage and selflessness. 1LT Bruggeman was married and graduated from Thiel College and Thomas Jefferson High School. His Dad was a WWII veteran, a teacher at Jefferson, and 1964's Class Sponsor. RIP First Lieutenant Bruggeman.
