I knew Lance since third grade at Slavens Elementary School. We were close friends all the way through high school. He was the official trainer to the football team which was a very important job in that we only had 30 players on the varsity team our senior year. He helped to patch us up, enabling us to continue to play through our injuries. Often, it's the players who receive the accolades. The people behind the scenes are equally deserving of recognition. I was friends with Lance on Facebook. He wouldn't shy away from stating his opinions and challenging debate from any and all comers. What truly impressed me was his composition, perfectly written with exact punctuation. After stints in the radio and television fields, Lance found a home as a chef and served overseas feeding our troops. In his spare time, Lance became an accomplished scuba diver, actually being lucky enough to swim with a whale shark in the Red Sea. Lance developed a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles which were second in his life behind his daughter, Lana, and his grandchildren. Lance was a good man who, partially due to his cigarette smoking, became a victim of covid. Every time I think of him, I just have to smile. Dave Stidger
