| About | I found this in a newspaper in Lubbock. I found this in a newspaper in Lubbock. Donald Leon Alvis 79, of Lubbock, Texas formerly of San Antonio, Texas died Monday, February 13, 2023. He was born on July 27, 1943 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Floyd and Alice Alvis. Donald worked many occupations during his lifetime. From 1962-1964, Donald worked in a mission in New York City. Returning to Oklahoma I 1964, Donald drove a truck, sold farm implement machinery, sold life insurance, worked in a funeral home in San Antonio and drove a school bus for the North East Public School District in San Antonio. While Donald was I high school, he was involved with FFA, where he won awards for speaking. On December 16, 1961, Donald married the love of his life, Dorothy La Vonne Lexow in Thomas, Oklahoma. They were married for 61 years. Donald was very involved in church activities. He along with Dorothy, served as youth sponsors at the First Wesleyan Church (now Cedar Ridge Wesleyan) in Enid, Oklahoma. He taught Sunday school for many years. Most recently at New Vision Nazarene Church in San Antonio. Donald loved to teach from the Word and loved to serve others. Donald and Dorothy moved to Lubbock in October 2018. Donald is survived by his wife, Dorothy Alvis of Lubbock; two daughters Debbie Davis and husband Todd of Rhome, Texas; Donna Carnagey and husband Todd of Petersburg, Texas; 4 grandchildren; Ashley Atkins and husband Andy; Chelsea Davis; Nathan Carnagey and wife Amelia; and Ryan Carnagey; and five great-grandchildren; and one sister Bonnie Purser of San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Alice Alvis and a sister, Loeida Alvis-Taylor. The memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, February 20, 2023 at First Assembly of God in Lubbock, Texas. No graveside services will be held.
