Anthony John Adams was born September 6, 1941 in Gary, Indiana to the late Henry C. Sr. and Lurlee Brown Adams. He was affectionately called "John" by his family and "Uncle John" by his nieces and nephews, and known as 'Papa Adams" by the business community. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1959. He was also known and participated in the HY Talent Show and integrated the HY Talent group known as "Uknown". He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 until 1962, receiving an honorable discharge. He received a degree from Terre Haute College. He was the owner "Papa Adams" Stop & Shop, founded by his late father, Henry C. Adams, Sr. He worked at Inland Steel, U.S. Steel, and was a counselor at Mercy Hospital, 1977-1985. He was an avid Chess Player. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry C. Sr. and Lurlee Adams; sister, Thelma Hardison; brothers, Rev. Lionel Adams and Henry C. Adams, Jr.; and godson, Booker Howard III. He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Wordie Eason Adams; daughters, Jetton (Edell) Adams Flagg, Tiffanie (Key) Johnson and Joi Eason all of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons, Ralph Crawford III and Melvin "Skidda" Hatten; grandchildren, Chirmere, Charmonique, Tia, Jaiquan Key Anthony, Key Johnson III, LaMonte' Johnson, Jaylin, Joy-Lysa, Chris John Anthony, Robert III, Joshua Kiara, Yasmeen, Devon and Haven; one great-granddaughter, Amya; sisters, Lonnie P. Carter and Acquenetta (Roy) Thomas of Gary, Indiana; brothers, Dr. LeRoy (Gloria) Adams of Suitland, MD and Velton (Dorothy) Hines of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Curley Adams; godchild, Jonathan Williams; best friends, Lewis Thornton, Morris Lewis, Johnny Kinsey, John Williams and Willie Millard; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends. Visitation and Funeral will be Monday, January 25, 2010. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM.

SOUTH BEND - Robert Earl Nelson was born on December 16, 1946, in Wardell, Missouri, to Johnnie Howard and Thelma Theressa Nelson. He was raised in Gary, IN, and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He stepped into eternity June 20, 2011, in the loving company of his wife, daughter, and other family members. Elder Nelson, known to some as "Slim," was a man full of joy and laughter. He worked as a truck driver most of his adult life, but his true occupation was ministry. He loved to encourage and would help others whenever the opportunity would arise. His heart, mind and soul were dedicated to the Lord. Elder Nelson was truly a man after God's own heart. He leaves to cherish his memories loving wife, Garvianna; mother, Thelma Theressa Nelson-Bullock; three children, Shirley Nelson-Grant, Sherman (Maria) Nelson, and his blessing in his old age, Theressa Nelson; three stepchildren, Dametress Woodberry, Carlotta Woodberry and Winston Phillips; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Nelson, Timothy (Cynthia) Nelson and Edwin (Saundra) Nelson; three sisters, Madlyn Nelson-Harper, Meleta Nelson-Ramirez and Jacqueline Nelson-Grady; a host of nieces and nephews; three aunts, Lilly Allen, Earnestine Butler and Ethel Spears; special first cousin, Maxine; a host of other cousins; two special friends, Robert E. Hunt and Keith Dean. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Howard Nelson; two sisters, Shirley Nelson and Melba-Joyce Nelson-Abram; two brothers, Dwight Nelson and Victor Lee Nelson. Public visitation for Robert Earl Nelson will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Clark O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West. South Bend, IN, Homegoing services will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Power In Praise Crusade Ministries, 610 North Logan Street, Mishawaka, IN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and then services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at 2:45 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) in Gary Oak Hill Cemetery, 4450 Harrison Street, Gary, Indiana.
