| About Me | From Tehachapi, I attended college in San Jose for two years before entering into the service (Air Force Security Services) where I worked at the National Security Agency in Washington DC as a Russian linguist. Just before entering the service, I married my wife, Laura Hird. When I left the service, I finished up college in Fresno Calif. I had put my way through school doing custom gem cutting for a jeweler there, who then hired me. Our only child, Amanda, was born in Fresno. I moved to Oregon in 1984 and opened my own business in 1986, providing jewelry appraisal services for a number of jewelers in the Pacific Northwest. My wife worked with me, providing office support. I provided services for over 50 jewelers in the region. In May 2000, I accepted a position in research at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad CA. Our daughter started her freshman year in college (2000) after receiving an athletic scholarship to attend Valparaiso University in Indiana.
