About Emily Woodward Macy
Merritt Island, FL
Emily Woodward Macy, most recently of Merritt Island, FL, peacefully succumbed to her nearly six-year battle with cancer on Monday, February 9, 2015, surrounded by her family. Emily was 51. She is survived by her husband, Tim, and three sons, Gordon, Robert and Philip, as well as her parents, Len and Beverly Woodward, of Rome, Georgia, and her sisters and their families, Cecilia Mittmann of Washington, DC and Kathleen Woodward of Boston.
Born in Perry, Fl, Emily attended Taylor County High School, Shorter College in Rome, GA and received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Memphis University. From a very early age, Emily could capture and hold the attention of an audience. She went on to have a very successful career as an actress, singer/dancer and writer/director. She started as a singer in the Crystal Pistol Music Hall at Six Flags Over Georgia, where she met Tim, who would become her husband of 27 years. Emily worked professionally in movies, television, live theater and print work for many years, eventually ending her professional career to put her energy and love into raising her three boys and to give back to the local community.
Emily loved to work with children. As the daughter of a social worker, Emily was drawn to helping the less fortunate from a very young age. She would not hesitate to help a child in need, and spent countless hours helping children enroll in programs that would change their lives forever. Even while battling cancer, she volunteered with several groups over the years to produce live theater, including shows at Jefferson Middle School. Emily later assumed the role of the drama department director at Edgewood Junior/Senior High on Merritt Island, at a time when the program was in turmoil.
Emily's energy and enthusiasm for everything she did was infectious and appreciated by anyone who ever had any form of contact with her. Emily was taken from us far too early, but her impact will truly be felt for generations to come. It is without hesitation that we say, "To know her was to love her".
A memorial service and celebration of Emily's life will be held at St Luke's Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 21, at 1 pm; reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to Merritt Island's Relay for Life event, benefiting the American Cancer Society which, this year, is dedicated to the memory of Emily Macy.
