Torri Minton, an award-winning journalist and college instructor, died of cancer August 4, 2004 at her home in Richmond. Torri, 47, had a rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. She was a reporter at The Chronicle for 16 years, covering major stories such as the Loma Prieta earthquake and the Polly Klaas kidnapping. She left in 2002 to teach journalism.
