About MIRKO V. JURKOVIC GRANGER, IN FORMERLY OF CALUMET CITY, IL
Mirko V. Jurkovic, age 42, Granger, IN a consensus All-American for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and a 4-time letter winner and member of the 1988 National Championship team, died Wednesday at the St. Joseph Medical Center (Mishawaka, IN) from complications due to colon cancer. Jurkovic played Defensive Tackle for the team that won the 1988 Fiesta Bowl. He played Offensive Guard for teams that won Orange Bowl in 89' and Sugar Bowl in 91'. He was named Notre Dame lineman of the year by the Moose Krause chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1991. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 9th round of his 1992 NFL Draft. Originally from Calumet City, IL, he attended Thornton Fractional North High School. Jurkovic graduated with a degree in Marketing from the College of Business Administration at Notre Dame. He is survived by his loving wife of nineteen years, Angie (nee Didelot); their three children: Mirko, Claire, and Samantha; Parents: Vidak and Zlata; brother, John (Brandy nee Rucinski); and sister, Iva Zakman; nephews and nieces: Nikola, Jacob, and Grace Jurkovic, Savanna, Max, and Luka Zakman; In-laws: Dick and Mary Didelot; and Brother in law, Steve Didelot.
