Helen Baker White

Class of 1950

Having George Kell for our physical education teacher back in the late 1940s was a wonderful experience. He was early in his major league career and probably taught school to supplement his income. He was a kind person and I am/was probably the clumsiest person to ever attend this school. Thus I was assigned to left field and a ball was never hit that far. Coach Kell assigned an additional girl to that position. and she and I would talk while waiting for some baseball action. All was going well until the day I was running back to home plate to get in the batting lineup and turned my ankle. That injury ended my baseball career, but Coach Kell decided that surely I could excel at some sport so two of us were assigned to the ping pong table in the basement. But that is a story for another day.
