Heath Shuler - At SCHS: Quarterbacked 3 state championship football teams; School record holder for most passing yards, TDs, Attempts, Completions, and the track high jump record; Named All-WNC & All-State; Parade All American; Number 21 is retired.
Post SCHS: Played 3 years at the University of Tennessee; Heisman Trophy Runner-up; Drafted 3rd overall by the Washington Redskins.
Honors - Member of the Swain County Athletic Hall of Fame; WNC Hall of Fame
Elected to the US House of Representatives in the 11th District of NC
