About Me	Been a while since I updated the info "about me." Things have indeed changed. I have an awesome job with a company called Sykes. (No, not the barbecue place.) Certainly not the best paying gig...but one of the most meaningful, albeit challenging, enterprises of my life. Yep...still working full time despite my advanced age. Can't afford to quit...mainly because of 40 years in radio with little more than a few newspaper clippings and a bunch of great memories to bankroll my much delayed retirement. Most meaningful to me is that I've returned to my first vocational love...which is playing the trombone. Back to daily practicing and even advanced, so it seems, beyond my Navy Band abilities. For years I was the Burt half of the Burt and Kurt Show. Kurt was the funny guy...and I was the straight guy. If you're over 50 that description will have the right meaning for you. Kurt and I did mornings on more radio stations than I can remember. My favorite comment regarding the old radio days is, "My parents used to listen to you when I was a little kid." We worked for some great broadcast companies...and at least one that bares little resemblance to the real thing. I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The Shenandoah River runs through my hometown, site of many fishing trips when I was a kid. Somebody hum a few bars of Oh, Shenandoah. Then immediately after high school I was accepted into the U.S. Navy Band as a trombonist and even did some feature singing with the band. While in the Navy Band I became interested in radio, enrolled in the Tidewater School of Broadcasting, and quickly landed my first radio job in Norfolk, VA. Radio was the mainstay of my career for a number of years with jobs in Harrisonburg, VA, Charlotte, NC, Birmingham, AL, Jackson, MS, Tampa, FL, and Houston, TX.
