Class of 1965
Stonewall Jackson class of 1967
Eastern Kentucky University Class of 1971
After high school I went to Eastern Kentucky University on a track scholarship.
I was a three-time All-American, cross country (1968, 1969) and track (1970), had four very successful years at Eastern. I placed second in the Ohio Valley Conference cross country championships my freshman and sophomore years and first in my junior and senior years. My best year came in 1970 when I placed first in every dual meet and won the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country championship setting a new course record with a time of 29:16.0 for the six mile course, took first in the conference three mile run with a time if 13:44 and had the sixth fastest steeple chase in the nation.
I n 1974 I was inducted into the Eastern Kentucky University Hall of fame as one of the 25 best athletes in the first 100 years of the university
I still hold the Eastern Kentucky University record for the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a clocking of 8.44 set in 1970. My time of 3:48 for 1500meters (about a 4:03 or 4:04 mile) still stands as the fifth fastest in school history. In 1969 I was the United States Track and Field Federation Steeple Chase champion.
I was Executive director of several YMCA’s in Columbus Ohio and served 27 years as a fund raiser and trainer for United Way. I took an early retirement in February 2009 and now play golf.
My high school sweet heart, Nancy, and I have been married for 42 years.
