Harold Walter Shore, age 85, of Johnson, Kansas passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026 at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. He was born on January 16, 1941, in Hugoton, Kansas, the son of John and Ione (Herrick) Shore.
Harold graduated from Stanton County High School in 1959. He went on to attend Kansas State University and joined ROTC while studying Agriculture Education. He graduated with his Bachelor's in 1963 and worked on his Master's also.
Harold married Helen (Robertson) on August 10, 1962, in Meade, Kansas. Harold taught High School for four years in Preston, Kansas and Claflin, Kansas, until his parents asked him if he would like to move back to the family farm. This was Harold's dream to farm, so, the family moved to Stanton County in June of 1967. Harold was a 4-H leader, served on the Farm Bureau, Southwest Kansas Irrigation, Kansas Nazarene District Finance, and Bethel Church of the Nazarene Boards. He served as Kansas Flying Farmer President and was very involved with the Bethel Church of the Nazarene just four miles east of their farm. Harold loved to fly and owned a Cessna Skylane. He flew the family to Florida, Calgary Alberta, Canada and many other states. The family enjoyed working on the family farm. Harold retired in May of 2016, due to cancer and other health issues.
Harold is survived by his wife, Helen Shore, of the home; a son, Kevin Shore of Derby Kansas; a daughter, Kelli Perez (Rudy) of Norton, Kansas; Three grandchildren, Zane Perez (Sydney Lyster) of Aurora, Colorado, Kylie Perez of College Station, Texas, and Lauren Perez of Hays, Kansas; two Brothers, Eugene Shore (Janet) and Glen Shore (Arla Dell); Sister, Carmen Urwiller (Gary); and two Sister-in-laws, Vera Robertson and Ellen Robertson. He will be missed by many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three Brother-in-laws, Ramon, Keith and Kenneth Robertson.
Harold's service will be at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 10095 East Road 23 in Johnson, Kansas on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM with Reverend Corbin Kellum officiating. (Bethel is located in the country 10 miles south of Big Bow, Kansas and 1 mile west) Interment will follow at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Memorials can be made to Bethel Church of the Nazarene or American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas, 67855.
