| About | Manter, Kansas Alma Fern Hammond was born to James and Opal McCandless Hammond on May 14, 1946, in Hamilton County Hospital and went to be with her Savior on April 19, 1977, at the age of 30 years, 11 months and five days. She attended the Manter Grade School all 12 years and was on the A team in basketball, which she loved to play. She also enjoyed sewing for her sister, daughter, and nieces. She was married to Thomas Hogue on December 20, 1965, and to this union was born a daughter, Tracey. They lived and farmed eight miles west of Manter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnson but had been attending the Manter Methodist church during the last year or so while she was in poor health. She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Susie McCandless, and her grandfathers, Harry Hammond and Alva McCandless. The surviving relatives are her mother and father, grandmother Gladys Hammond, two sisters: Arletta Crow of Manter and Linda Hammond of the home; three brothers, Alva Hammond, Goodwell, Oklahoma, Delmar Hammond, Syracuse and Terry Hammond of the home; four nephews; Jeff, Tony and Eddie Crow of Manter and Todd Hammond of Johnson; five nieces, Melissa, Susie and Maria Crow of Manter, Jamie Hammond of Johnson and Michela Hammond of Goodwell, Oklahoma; other relatives and friends. Memorial services for Alma Fern Hogue were held in the Manter United Methodist Church on April 22 with the Rev Lucille Wehmeyer officiating.
