| About | Manter, Kansas Duane L. Nichols, age 65, died January 15, 2009 at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born July 2, 1943 in Garden City the son of Harold Duane and Arlene (Kilgore) Nichols. He graduated from Manter High School in 1961, after high school Duane attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma for one year before transferring to Fort Hays State University where he obtained his Bachelor Degree. December 29, 1963 he married Norma Neely at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson. In 1965 Norma and Duane moved to the Finney county area where they would remain. While in Finney county Duane would work for Collingwood Grain, Gulf Oil Corporation, Pueblo Chemical & Supply and Cora Belt Chemical, before becoming owner and operator of Micro Solutions, Pro Age Sales and The Truck Stop. Duane enjoyed restoring automobiles, being a devoted Kansas State University fan and taking care of the people around him. Duane loved spending time with his family especially his grandchidren. Duane was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Old Friends of Western Kansas, Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association, Co-founder of Pueblo Air Force, Rocky Mountain Agribusiness Association, Four States Irrigation Council, Ditch & Reservoir Company Alliance, National Street Rod Assn., Mustang Club of America, Good Guys Rod & Custom Assn., Straight Eight's Car Club, ICI Executive Club, the Eagles Lodge, and National Fertilizer Solutions Association. Duane is survived by his wife Norma of the home; two daughters, Danna Knoll of Holcomb, Deanna Nichols-Stika of Creston, Ohio; mother, Arlene Nichols of Johnson; two brothers, Jerald Nichols of Manter, Galyn Nichols of Ulysses; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, and two grandchldren, Kyler and Taryan Knoll. Memorial contributions may be given to the Western Kansas Community Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846. Duane L.
