Hal Hale, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson.

He was born March 4, 1911, in Beaver County, Okla., the son of Jesse and Bethia Wilhoit Hale. The family moved to Morton County in 1927.

He married Geneva Coombes on Nov. 14, 1931, in Tribune. He and his wife milked cows, farmed and raised cattle through the years. They also custom cut from Oklahoma to Montana.

He served on the Sherwood school board for two years; the Manter school board 14 years; was a Stanton County commissioner for 16 years; a board member of Garden City PCA for 21 years; and a member of the Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 441 AF & AM. He was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Wiletta (Sally) Daniels and Ruth Loader, both of Manter; one sister, Clyda Cott, Johnson; eight grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Rev. Keith Fink officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, formerly Figgins-Phillips, of Johnson. Memorials are suggested to the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson, in care of the funeral home.
