| About | Major James O. Black, USMC (ret.) died in Chula Vista on January 11, 2011 of congestive heart failure. Born in Caney, KS on September 1, 1931, he graduated high school in Johnson, KS and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952. His 22-years included combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia (Ottis) Black; daughters Carol, Marilyn, and Candace; son Jimmy; and was preceded in death by son Chris. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wounded Warriors Fund, 2115 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92101 or www.warrior foundation.com. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20th, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish, followed by a reception at the Chula Vista Nature Center.
