About Funeral for Edward Everett Combs, 69, a lifetime resident of Johnson, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson, with the Revs. Dale Clare and Keith Fink officiating. Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson.
Mr. Combs died Monday, April 27, 1998, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 24, 1929, at Pratt, the son of Melvin D. and Melva "Pat" (Swafford) Combs.
He graduated from Stanton County High School in 1948. In October 1950, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean conflict and as a military policeman.
A farmer, rancher and heavy equipment operator, Mr. Combs also enjoyed baseball and had been a Little League Baseball coach.
He married Dixie Black in 1951 and they had four children. In 1978 he married Elva Beller. She died in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his father and a sister, Twila Jeanne Combs.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathy "Penny" L. Combs, Johnson; three sons, Danny L. Combs and Eddie L. Combs, both of Johnson, and Jerry L. Combs, Southhaven, Miss.; a stepson, Jeff Scott, Mountain View, Mo.; a brother, Jimmie D. Combs, Rockaway Beach, Mo.; a sister, Joanne Foote, Grand Junction, Colo.; his mother, Johnson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Figgins-Phillips Funeral Home, Johnson. Memorials to Little League Baseball at Stanton County Recreation Department may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855.
