| About | Marjorie Mae "Marge" Whittington, 72, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at her home in Johnson City. She was born March 31, 1929, at Johnson City, the daughter of Forrest O. "Foxy" and Emma Louise "Momo" Walker. A lifetime resident of Johnson City, she graduated from Johnson High School in 1947. Mrs. Whittington had worked at Emery's Drug, Johnson State Bank, at the ASCS office for 32 years, Z's Clothes and most recently at the County Fair Restaurant. For more than 45 years, she was involved with the Girl Scouts, serving as a board member for the Tumbleweed Girl Scout Council in Garden City, a was a current leader for the local Daisy Girl Scouts. A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Johnson City, she was a member of the UMW, received many awards for her church work with the children and played in the Bell Choir at the church. For more than 50 years, she belonged to Rebekah Lodge, serving as past Noble Grand and treasurer for many years, and of the Futorum Club. She was vice-president of the Stanton County Hospital Auxiliary and served on the Stanton County Recreation Board. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, painting landscapes, animals, and time with her family. On Aug. 29, 1948, she married Enid Whittington at Johnson City. He died Aug. 8, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, Johnson City; a son, Vance Whittington, Rye, Colo.; a daughter, Cindy Batterton, Manter; a brother, Forrest L. Walker, Johnson City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral will be 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating. The service will be preceded by a flower card reading at 9 a.m. Graveside committal service will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City, followed by a family luncheon at the church. Visitation hours at the church are from 4 to 6 CDT tonight for the family; friends and family may call from 6 to 8 tonight and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
