About Galen Vernon Lane, 78, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Stanton County Long Term Care, Johnson.

He was born Oct. 6, 1927 to Leslie Orval "Spee" and Minta Maree (Rorick) Lane in Finney County. He married Iris Elizabeth Edmisson on May 20, 1946 in Garden City. She preceded him in death Nov. 16, 2004.

He was a farmer and rancher and was very active in the community through boards and clubs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Johnson, where he served on numerous committees, the Johnson Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, the men's golf association, the airport board and the Silver-Haired Legistators. He also served on the Johnson City Council for 48 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Wynn Cockrum and husband Darrell, and Penny Tucker, all of Johnson; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Also preceeding in death include one brother, Galard Lane, and one sister, Janice Armstrong Dorr.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. Burial will be at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson.
