Wilma N. Winger, 89, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in rural Brewster in Sherman County, to William Thompson and Mary Adriane Kane Jones. She graduated from Johnson High School in 1942. A longtime resident of Stanton County, Mrs. Winger moved to Garden City in 1971, but returned to Johnson City in the 1990s. She had worked for the Stanton County and Finney County ASCS. On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Frederick Dale Winger in Johnson City. He died May 4, 1948. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, F. Kent Winger; a grandson; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Margaret Dimmit Wilkerson. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ricker of Walsh, Colo., and Margaret Hook of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson City. Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City. Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City.
