| About | Funeral for Juanita M. Neely, 78, of Garden City, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson. Mrs. Neely, a homemaker, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, after a sudden illness. She was born May 16, 1920, in Stanton County, the daughter of Zenith B. and Julia May (Leiss) Nicholas. She graduated from Kansas State University. On Jan. 23, 1944, she married Allen Neely at College Station, Texas. They moved from Stanton County in 1966 and had lived in Colorado and Texas before returning to Garden City in December 1997. Mrs. Neely was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Cosmos Club and enjoyed bowling, cooking, sewing and quilting. She is survived by a daughter, Norma J. Nichols, Holcomb; two sons, Dr. Marlon R. Neely, Littleton, Colo., and Lowell D. "L.D." Neely, Pearland, Texas; two brothers, Winfred C. Nicholas and Ivan L. Nicholas, both of Johnson; two sisters, Gwendolyn E. Pentland, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Vada M. Mercer, Bullhead City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Maylon K. "Nick" Neely; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herman E. Nicholas. Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Figgins-Phillips Funeral Home, Johnson.
