Emery Franklin Josserand 1921 - 2006 Johnson
Services for Emery Franklin Josserand, 85, Johnson, were Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Johnson. Burial followed in Stanton County Cemetery. Mr. Josserand died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Stanton County Long-Term Care Unit in Johnson. He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Syracuse, KS, the son of Orvan Emery "Doe" and Ina Pearl Winger Josserand. He graduated with a pharmacy degree in 1942 from Kansas University, where he was president of Acacia fraternity. He was a lifelong Stanton County resident. Mr. Josserand briefly worked for Tilford's Orpheum Pharmacy in Wichita. He owned and operated Emery's Drug in Johnson from 1944 to 1997. For several years he was the community's principal medical adviser and coroner. He was a charter member of the Johnson Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Johnson City Council and school board and helped plan for the construction of Stanton County Medical Clinic and Stanton County Hospital. He married Lena Harriett Gatewood on Dec. 21, 1942, in Wichita. She died June 17, 1990. Survivors include three sons, Emery L., Winfield, Jon, Lawrence, and Lance, Wichita; three daughters, Jeri Buchholz, Oberlin, Linda Josserand, McPherson, and Jodell Josserand, Guymon, Okla.; a brother, O.W., Johnson; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
