She graduated from Johnson High School in 1935 and attended Southwestern College for two years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed music, crafts and sewing. On July 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Vivian C. Glenn at Johnson, Kansas. To this union a daughter, Maxine Elaine was born in Canon City, CO on April 19, 1946. They traveled extensively and visited all of the 50 state capitols. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1949 they helped begin Southern Baptist work there and were charter members of First Southern Baptist Church. Vivian died on October 15, 1966 at their farm home in Johnson, Kansas. On November 21, 1992, she was united in marriage to a long time friend, Joseph Glen Jones of Canon City. Maxine and Tom had three children, Beth, Glenn, and Rebecca. Now Tom and Maxine have nine grandchildren, making Rozella the great-grandmother of nine. There names are Katherine, Kelly, Amy, Seth, Ashley, Blaine, Caroline, Julia, and Anna. Rozella was a church organist growing up, and she passed on her musical talent to her daughter, Maxine, her granddaughter, Rebecca, and many of her great-grandchildren. Now the youngest six great-grandchildren are heavily involved in musical activities, including dance, piano, band, and choir. Rozella even passed down her baby grand piano to Rebecca and her children. Rozella Jones lived in Canon City until about two years before her death, when she moved to Wichita. Rozella's family got to visit her often in those couple of years before she passed. She lived in a care home, and many great-grandchildren would visit often to play Dominoes on Sundays and Bingo on Fridays. Her great-grandchildren will never forget how she liked to cheat in Dominoes. One of the dominoes was thinner than the others, so you always knew where a six and seven was, and she never forgot. She would also try to "help" the youngest great-grandchild, Anna. In reality, she just wanted to look at Anna's dominoes so she could win. We know exactly where the competitiveness in the family stemmed from. One of Rozella's favorite pastimes was showing off her great-grandchildren to all her friends at the care home. She especially loved listening to them give mini piano recitals. She will always be remembered as a loving lady who passionately cared for others. |
