| About | Winfred C. Nicholas, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Aug. 14, 1914, to Z.B. and Julia May (Leiss) Nicholas in Stafford County. He married Marcile Cross June 12, 1940, in Johnson. She survives. He had been a resident of Stanton County since 1918. He was a farmer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson. Other survivors include one son, Wendell Nicholas and wife, Nancy, Johnson; three daughters, Sharon Frank and husband, James, Great Bend, Connie Harder and husband, Cliff, Moscow, Russia, and Tammy Bray and husband, Doug, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Ivan Nicholas, Johnson; two sisters, Vada Mercer, Bullhead City, Ariz., and Gwen Pentland, Phoenix; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurel Nicholas; one brother, Herman Nicholas; and one sister, Juanita Neely. * Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. The family suggests memorials to either the First United Methodist Church or the Stanton County Scholarship Foundation, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.
