June Cockrum, 93, of Johnson City, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson City.

She was born June 4, 1917, in Ford County, to Martin VanBuren and Etta Pearl Carbiener Hess.

A resident of Stanton County since she was 6, Mrs. Cockrum had worked as a secretary at the Stanton County Welfare Office at one time.

On April 2, 1939, she married Darius Ethen "D.E." Cockrum in Johnson City. He preceded her in death as did her parents and four siblings, Esther Shepard, Donald Hess, Gail Hess and Doris O'Banion.

Survivors include a son, Darrell K. Cockrum of Johnson City; three daughters, Carolyn L. Baylor of Lithia, Fla., Nancy J. Murray of Kimberling City, Mo., and Joyce E. Baughman of Hugoton; a brother, Stanley Hess of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Glennis Fourtner of Canon City, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City. Burial was at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
