About Emily Agartha Frier Wartman, age 98, of Johnson, Kansas died Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born September 13, 1916 in Galatia, Kansas, the daughter of John and Ada (Wallace) Frier.

Emily's family moved around Kansas and settled in Johnson in 1929. Her parents opened the Dodge Inn in Johnson in 1930. She graduated from Stanton County High School, and was the first class to attend the new high school for a full term. Emily worked in the Farm Bureau office. She married John Wartman on November 17, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas.

She and John farmed and ranched in Stanton County north of Manter. They survived the Depression and Dust Bowl days. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in 1986.

Emily taught Sunday school, served as Girl Scout and Brownie Scout leader, was a Cub Scout Den mother, and a 4-H leader. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Jolly Dozen Club, Mother's Club, Cosmos Club, and she served as county treasurer for a short time during World War II. She also served as a director of the Johnson State Bank.

Emily loved the Christmas season, and her family gathered every Christmas Eve in the Wartman home. She made Christmas stockings for each member of her family, and also made many porcelain dolls and doll clothes. Emily also enjoyed crafting, sewing, traveling, and spending time at the family cabin in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.

Emily is survived by her children Patricia Roach and husband Dave of Johnson, Kansas, Jonnitta Holliday of Johnson, Kansas, Bonnitta LeDoux of Woodland Park, Colorado, Greg Wartman and wife Amy of Ulysses, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Pam Brady, Keri Dozier, Jonathan LeDoux, Heath Holliday, Adam Holliday, Emie Novack, Sarah Wartman, Spencer Wartman, RayLynn Wartman; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and brothers, Elwin and Frank.

Funeral service were held at 5:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine and Pastor Carl Kissell officiating.
Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas.
