Events | Howard D. Campbell, 71, of Lakin, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. He was born July 24, 1931, to Herbert Campbell and Lola (Hague) Campbell Hudgens in Haviland. He married Ruby Carter Nov. 16, 1958, in Ulysses. She survives. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1949. He served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War, and was a farmer for 44 years until retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Manter Methodist Church and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Other survivors include, three daughters, Sandra Streckfus, Lakin, Shari Campbell, Hutchinson, and Sally Campbell, Holcomb; two brothers, Richard Campbell, Big Bow, Jim Campbell, Booker, Texas; four grandchildren, Joe, Austin, and William Streckfus, and Sydney Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Herb Campbell. * Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with the Rev. Dave Kaufman presiding. Burial with military rites will follow at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North, Johnson, KS 67855.
