Events Joseph Franklin "Joe" Batterton, 78, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at the Stanton County Hospital, Johnson.

He was born Nov. 7, 1927, to David Edgar and Vada Evelyn (Book) Batterton in Grant County. He married Jacqueline Scrivner on May 18, 1947, at Manter. She survives.

He and his family moved to Stanton County when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1945 and began farming.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Manter; a 20-year-member of the ASCS Board; and a member of the Stanton County Senior Center Board. He also served on the Manter High School Board and the Stanton County Hospital Board. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, putting together jigsaw puzzles and bird watching.

Other survivors include two sons, Lynn Batterton and wife, Lisa, Manter, and Eddie Batterton and wife, Cindy, Johnson; one daughter, Evelyn Hacker and husband, Chuck, Ulysses; three brothers, Loyd Batterton and wife, Wanda, Johnson, Russell Batterton and wife, Nola, Sublette, and David Batterton and wife, Phyllis, Eads, Colo.; two sisters, Shirley Wilkerson, Manter, and June McKinney, Winlock, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George Batterton, and two sisters, Marjorie Harmon-Baxter and Hazel Cleaves.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Revs. April Chlumsky and Glenn Fogo presiding. Burial will be in the Stanton County Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson.
