Events | Joyce Elaine Baughman, 64, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at her home in Hugoton. She was born Jan. 4, 1953, in Ulysses, to Darius Ethen Cockrum and June Hess Cockrum. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Southwestern College and a master’s degree in science education from Kansas State University. On Aug. 21, 1977, she married Gary Loyd Baughman in Johnson City. She worked alongside her husband at the Animal Health Center for more than 30 years. Mrs. Baughman volunteered in the community as a 4-H project leader, community club leader, Extension council member and secretary. She served eight years on the Stevens County Hospital and Long Term Care Unit board as trustee, secretary and president. In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Duane Morgan Baughman of Manhattan, and Ethan Baughman and wife Christen Marie Buseman of Crestwood, Mo.; a granddaughter, Evelyn Rose Baughman; a grandson, James Edward Baughman; two sisters, Carolyn Baylor of Florida, and Nancy Murray of Missouri; a brother, Darrell Cockrum of Johnson City; four nieces, Ashley Fiss, Dawn Knapek, Kendra Piening and Chrissy Truhe; five nephews, Dirk Cockrum, Bryan Baylor, Con Cockrum, Jonathon Frahm and Karlin Frahm; and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Edward Baylor. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hugoton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Becky Davidson presiding. Cremation has taken place.
