Events Jerre K. Rorick, DVM, age 77, passed away peacefully at 11:26 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Deaconess Heartland Medical Center of Marion, IL.

He was born on July 1, 1947, in Dodge City, KS, the son of Elmer Ray and Carmen Ray (Speck) Rorick.

Jerre attended school in Johnson, KS, and was a graduate of Johnson High School Class of 1965. He continued on with his education attending Kansas State University Veterinary School graduating in 1971.

After his graduation he answered the call of this nation through his enlistment with the United States Army and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of Captain.

While on the rodeo circuit Jerre met June Louise Reynolds and on July 26, 1969, they were united in marriage in Arapahoe, CO, and together they have enjoyed over 55 years of marriage.

In 1975, he began his long veterinary career specializing in Thoroughbred Race Horses living in Elmhurst, IL, and working daily at the "Hawthorne", "Sportsman" and "Arlington" Racetracks year-round. Then in 2008, he moved to the Shelbyville, IN, area near Indianapolis, IN, and began working at "Indiana Grand Racetrack." In this position he worked 8 months of the year and spent the remaining 4 months between spending time in the Florida Keys, and at his farm called "Country Comfort Farm" located southeast of Marion. In January of 2021, he retired and moved fulltime to the farm.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors on the farm, deer hunting, gardening and identifying the many other types of trees he had on his property. While spending time in Florida, he enjoyed going deep sea fishing.

He loved his family and was always interested in hearing about all the many activities going on in their lives and enjoyed the times they spent together. The many memories created will now be cherished by those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife, June L. Rorick of Marion, IL; son, Shawn R. Rorick and wife, Stephanie of Marion, IL; daughter, Jerilynn June "JJ" Gossrau and husband, Jason of Webster Groves, MO; four grandchildren, Larissa Rorick and Ozzy Rorick both of Marion, IL, and William Gossrau and Luke Gossrau both of Webster Groves, MO; sister, Pam Page and husband, Richard of Texarkana, TX; brother, Kevin Rorick and wife, Susan of Jonesboro, AR; two brothers-in-law, Ken Reynolds and wife, Jane and Max Reynolds and wife, Cathy all of Lexington, NE, other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Lanny Rorick.

Arrangements were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Cana Baptist Church, located at 7729 IL Route 166, southeast of Marion, IL, with Pastor Steve Lindsay presiding.

The eulogy was presented by members of the family.
Those attending the service started gathering at the church at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Special musical selections presented during the service were "Take My Hand Precious Lord" by Mike Blumenstock with pianist, Sheila Harris accompanying him and "Amazing Grace" and "I'll Fly Away" both as congregational selections with recorded accompaniment.

Following the service the family and friends gathered together for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support.

Burial was on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Stanton County Cemetery near Johnson, Kansas, with Pastor Jacques Kambol presiding.

Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the Dust Bowl VFW Post No. 3984 of Johnson, KS.
Special recorded vocal musical presented at the graveside were "The Old Rugged Cross" by Alan Jackson, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" by Alan Jackson", "If You Can See Where I Am" by Mia Paige and "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton.

Following the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at the Methodist Church of Johnson, KS, for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support.

Memorial contributions were mailed to "Cana Baptist Church", 7729 Rt.166, Creal Springs, IL 62922.
