Events Joan Darrough, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at her home in Johnson City.

She was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Satanta, to Daniel S. and Sula Irene Saylors Ray. She attended Hickok School in rural Grant County until moving in 1945 to Stanton County, where she graduated from Johnson High School in 1953. She graduated from Colorado Women's College in 1955 with an associate of arts degree in business.

On April 25, 1959, she married Kenneth Darrough in Lancaster, Calif.

Mrs. Darrough worked for banks in Denver and Lancaster and also worked with her husband running K&S Meat Processing. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star No. 471.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Shane Darrough of Dodge City; a daughter, Kim Darrough-Hayden of Ulysses; three grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Willene and Bernice; and a brother, Kenneth.

A celebration of her life was at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. Burial was at Ulysses Cemetery, with burial rites performed by Eastern Star No. 471.
