Events James R. (Jim) Garrison, 80, of Johnson City, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Eldora, Iowa, to Bob and Eulah Ellison Garrison.

He graduated from Johnson High School in 1953.

On May 31, 1953, he married Charlene Windmill in Johnson City. He attended junior college and then served four years in the United States Air Force. After an honorable discharge, they lived in Augusta and then moved back to Stanton County in 1962.

Jim served as Stanton County Sheriff from 1967 to 2000.

Survivors include four sons, Gill Garrison of Pensacola, Fla., Rusty Garrison of Otis, Colo., Greg Garrison of Johnson City, and Marty Garrison of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Char, in November 2013; and a brother, Robert Garrison.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson City.
