| Events | Donald DeVonne Wilson, 72, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at his home in Syracuse. He was born July 1, 1934, in Bucklin, to Crit Pirtle and Edna Pearl Jones Wilson. He grew up in Stanton County, graduated from Stanton County High School in 1952 and attended Kansas State University for two years, majoring in agriculture. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Tucson, Ariz. During his time in the military he was stationed at a number of bases, including Germany's Air Force Base in Spangdahlem, France's Air Force Base in Etain-Rouvers, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and McGuire Air Force Base in Mount Holly, N.J. He served nine years in the military, as an air police for the Air Force, ending his service in Mount Holly on Sept. 4, 1958. He then worked with his brother in Mount Holly on the police force for two years before beginning work at Wahlrope making nylon rope. He also was a manager of the Pathmark Gas Station in Mount Holly. In 1975, he and his wife moved to Syracuse, where they owned and operated the C & D Capri Restaurant for two years. In 1978, he began working for the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring on March 21, 1997. He then worked for a local farmer. Mr. Wilson was a member of numerous organizations, including Topeka American Legion Post No. 58, Moose Lodge No. 737 in Mount Holly and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7521 in Tribune. He enjoyed working with computers, genealogy, reading, photography, listening to country and western music and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. On June 24, 1967, he married Catherine Veronica "Cass" Lamb in Rancocas, N.J. She died Dec. 19, 2005. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Kerry and Edward Wilson. Survivors include a son, Brian C. Wilson of Garden City; two daughters, Donna Eubank of Fort Collins, Colo., and Denise Schwartz of Tabernacle, N.J.; a brother, Norman Wilson of Topeka; a sister, Shawn Dees of Lakin; and six grandchildren. Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. MST Thursday at the Wesleyan Church, 706 Post Road in Syracuse. Private family inurnment will take place later at Syracuse Cemetery. Visitation hours are until 8 p.m. MST today and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST Wednesday at Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.
